The goods typically transported by our automated material handling cart include carts of dietary/food items, medical/surgical supplies (case carts) , linens, trash, regulated medical waste, pharmaceuticals, items for decontamination centers, and general housekeeping items. In the hospital, this AGV system links the central processing areas such as the kitchen, laundry, trash dock, receiving, sterile stores, etc. with the patient floors. Materials are processed in these areas and are sent automatically using the Automated Transport System (ATS) transporters to the appropriate patient floor. Similarly, materials can be sent from the patient floors back to those central processing areas. Requests for material movement are made with user friendly touch screens or portable handheld PDAs. The system is fully integrated to automatically operate doors, elevators/lifts, cart washers, trash dumpers, etc.
Using an ATLIS AGV Automated Transport System (ATS) frees hospital employees to spend a maximum amount of their time directly on patient care. It improves safety in the hospital by minimizing the potential for hospital workers to be injured pushing heavy carts. It tracks all material movements and can prioritize jobs so that the most important tasks can be completed first (for example: surgical supplies, then patient meals, then linens, then trash, etc.) The ATLIS vehicle is outfitted with obstacle detection sensors which bring it to a safe stop before contacting any obstacles that might be in its path. It is a reliable, safe, efficient and cost effective AGV which is an excellent replacement for overhead rail or AMSCAR Automatic Transport System (ATS).
